University of Macau Centre for Chinese History and Culture Successfully Hosts the 4th “Inheritance in the City ” Program in 2025 Enhancing Youth Cultural Identity and Promoting the Inheritance of Outstanding Traditional Chinese Culture in Macao

From October to December 2025, the Centre for Chinese History and Culture at the University of Macau successfully hosted the 4th “Inheritance in the City” Program. The initiative aimed to promote Chinese history and culture among young people in Macao, enhance public awareness and understanding of Chinese culture, and foster cultural identity among youth. Since its inception, the program has been successfully held for four consecutive editions and has become a widely influential campus-based cultural event in Macau. It also formed part of the 4th Festival of Chinese Culture series of activities.

As a flagship youth-oriented cultural outreach program developed by the Centre, the “Inheritance in the City” initiative has consistently adopted vivid, interactive, and diverse approaches to bring outstanding traditional Chinese culture into schools and closer to students. This year’s program featured a wide range of thematic activities held across multiple primary and secondary schools in Macao, including cultural exhibitions, skills competitions, interactive experiences, and lecture sessions. The content covered calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, traditional music, Chinese opera, festive customs, historical stories, and more, providing students with a platform to engage with tradition, experience culture firsthand, and exchange ideas.

Since its launch, the program has received enthusiastic support and positive responses from various sectors of Macao society, attracting active participation from teachers and students from dozens of primary and secondary schools. Many schools organized diverse cultural practices and competition activities tailored to their own characteristics, allowing students to experience the profound heritage and unique charm of Chinese culture through active participation. The program placed emphasis not only on knowledge transmission, but also on emotional cultivation and values education. Through immersive cultural experiences, it guided young people to develop cultural confidence and deepen their national identity and patriotic sentiment.
