UM holds first forum of thinkers in Macao

The University of Macau (UM) recently held the first forum of thinkers in Macao. The event was co-organised by UM’s Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC) and the editorial team of South China Quarterly. During the event, participants discussed the creation of a community with a shared future for mankind and its significance in Macao and in Chinese and western cultures. Officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Wu Zhiliang, president of the Board of Directors of the Macao Foundation; Yonghua Song, rector of UM; Hao Yufan, director of the CCHC; Tian Weiping, editor-in-chief of South China Quarterly; Wei Chuxiong, advisor to the CCHC; as well as experts and scholars from various institutions, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University, and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.

The course is designed to serve primary and secondary school teachers in Macao, through intensive lectures, classroom interactions, innovative reports, etc., to update their knowledge of Chinese history and culture, enhance their ability to appreciate and explain the achievements of Chinese civilization, and promote their better Self-study or teaching skills of Chinese history and culture, thus strengthening the love and recognition of young people in Macao for Chinese civilization. The registration period starts from now until October 31, 2018, and the start date is January 2019.

Admission Requirements

  1. Follow the general admission regulations and requirements of the University. Please refer to Graduate School website: Regular Admission to Master’s Degree & Postgraduate Certificate / Diploma Programmes of 2018/2019 (https://www.umac.mo/grs/cn/admissions_regular.php).
  2. Admission will be in accordance with the University Admission Rules on MA degree in Chinese. In addition, the MA students must have a BA degree in History, Literature, Geography, Education, Communication, Sociology, Chinese or a relevant field.

UM arranges for secondary school teachers to learn about Chinese history and culture in Xi’an

UM arrange for secondary school teachers to visit Xi’an

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Chinese History and Culture recently arranged for teachers from 18 secondary schools in Macao to visit Xi’an and learn about Chinese history and culture.

The secondary schools included Hou Kong Middle School, Keang Peng School, Our Lady of Fatima Girls School (Macau), Matteo Ricci College, Taipa Fong Chong School, Estrela Do Mar School Macau, Affiliated School of the University of Macau, Sao Jose Diocesan College, 6thSchool, and Sao Jose Diocesan College, 5th School.

During the trip, members of the delegation visited Shaanxi Normal University, the Yang Mausoleum of Han, Terracotta Army, the Forest of Stone Steles Museum, and Shaanxi History Museum. The participants also attended talks on Chinese culture, the protection of cultural heritages, and the development of Xi’an as an ancient Chinese capital.
