The Collision of Tradition and Technology: “An Academic Seminar on Chinese Culture and the Future of New Chinese Poetry ” Held at the Centre for Chinese History and Culture of the University of Macau
On the morning of 13 April, 2023, the “Academic Seminar on Chinese Culture and the Future of New Chinese Poetry – A Summary of the First 70 Issues of “Contemporary Poetry”, co-organized by the Centre for Chinese History and Culture and the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre of the University of Macau, was held at the Cultural Building of the University of Macau. Nearly 30 experts and scholars from Macau and abroad discussed the development of Chinese poetry from the perspectives of history, culture, poetry, fiction, technology, and medicine, as well as the influence and impact of ChatGPT on Chinese poetry. The speech was delivered by Guru, well-known scholar of yogic thought; Prof. Agnes Lam, Director of Centre for Macau Studies, Prof. Yuan Yulin, Head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Distinguished Professor Ouyang Jianghe of Beijing Normal University, renowned poet Xiao Xiao, and Prof. Zhang Qinghua , Associate Dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Normal University.

The ” Academic Seminar on Chinese Culture and the Future of New Chinese Poetry ” focused on the strength of new Chinese poetry when facing technology. The experts and scholars agreed that Chinese poetry has to and is capable of maintaining its cultural confidence in the face of the challenges of technology and artificial intelligence.
