The opening of “Patriotism — the Father of Chinese Modern Design Art Pang Xunqin’s Works Exhibition”

Sponsored by Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism and Changshu Municipal People’s Government, organized by the Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC) of the University of Macau, the “Patriotism — the Father of Chinese Modern Design Art Pang Xunqin’s Works Exhibition” was opened at the CCHC of the University of Macau (E34 Cultural Building) on December 10, and a Book Presentation Ceremony as well as Ribbon-cutting Ceremony were held at the same time. The exhibition will be displayed for 14 days till December 24th.

Mr. Hui Jianlin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Mr. Han Weibing, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, Ms. Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Mr. Song Yonghua, Rector of the University of Macau, Ms. Chen Linda, President of the Macao Association for Chinese Traditional Culture, and other celebrities and student representatives of the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador of the University of Macau were invited to attend the opening ceremony.

‘Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland World Natural Heritage into Colleges and Universities’ activity came to the University of Macau

Recently, organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the Yancheng Municipal People’s government and supported by the Centre of Chinese History and Culture of the University of Macau, the ‘Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland World Natural Heritage into Colleges and Universities’ activity came to the University of Macau. During the two-day exhibition on the 10th and 11th, a new Yancheng Wetland Protection Exhibition was brought to UM teachers and students. The exhibition was held in G007 Exhibition Hall of the UM Library, and the organizer set up exhibits in various forms such as text, photography, visual and audio, which described the process of applying for the world heritage of the Yancheng Yellow Sea Wetland, the wetland ecological protection measures and results. Through multi-sensory and multi-angle experience, the audience have deeply understood the significance of ecological construction.

Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary and Higher Degrees 2021

On Dec 11 2021, University of Macau held the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary and Higher Degrees 2021. Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, the representative of Macao SAR chief executive and UM chancellor, and Song Yonghua, Rector of University of Macau, attended the ceremony and gave speeches.

The Master of Arts in Chinese History and Culture program offered by Centre for Chinese History and Culture, University of Macau aims to serve the local high school teachers exclusively, strengthen their skill and foundation for independent studying and excellent teaching of Chinese history and culture, as well as promote via them the affection for and identity with the Chinese civilization among Macao’s youth community. A total of 20 students graduated this year. Professor Zhu Shoutong, the director of the master’s program, and Professor Zheng Dehua, the tutor of the master’s program participated in the presentation ceremony and took a group photo with the graduates.

Chinese spirit – Picture exhibition tour of red ribbon on earth

On December 6, 2021, the activity of ‘Chinese spirit – Picture exhibition tour of red ribbon on earth’ was carried out in Macao Kao Yip Middle School. The exhibition tour was jointly organized by the Macao Association of Chinese Traditional Culture, the Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC) of University of Macau, the Macao Youth Federation, the Macao Confucian Association and the Macao Lotus Times. The activity aims to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, to strengthen Macao compatriots, especially the young generation of Macao, to review and understand Chinese history, to carry forward and inherit the great spirit of the Long March, and to enhance Macao teenagers’ sense of belonging and pride of the country.

 

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China with Calligraphy Works: The Opening Ceremony of Calligraphy Joint Exhibition of the Four places in the Greater Bay Area

On December 6, 2021, the opening ceremony of the Love the Party with all sincerity—Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China joint exhibition, sponsored by the Macau Calligraphers Association and co-organized by Centre for Chinese History and Culture, University of Macau was successfully held in Chongwen Building, University of Macau. The exhibition brought together the works of calligraphers from Shenzhen Nanshan, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao in the Greater Bay Area.

The opening ceremony was brilliant. Guests from four places in the Greater Bay Area were invited to give speeches at the meeting to celebrate the centenary of the party. Afterwards, the guests also visited the calligraphy works on display.

This exhibition is an important measure for Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao to give full play to the sharing of cultural resources and strengthen the linkage of cultural and urban areas. Macau is geographically close to Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Hong Kong, and is connected by cultural heritage. In the future, this exhibition will be regarded as a benchmark to further strengthen the calligraphy communication with other three places.

Series of Academic Exhibition of Special topics in the Special Era: Talking of Children Literature by Prof. Tang Sulan

On Dec 2 2021, Series of Academic Exhibition of Special topics in the Special Era: Talking of Children Literature was successfully held in E34 (Chongwen Building).

It is appreciated for inviting Professor Tang Sulan, School of Humanities, Hunan Normal University to be the lecture speaker, and special thanks to Wang Sihao, Associate Professor, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau, and Zhu Congqian, Assistant Professor, University International College, Macau University of Science and Technology, as the host and special guest for attending the lecture. Students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities joined the lecture online and offline.

The Preliminary Round of the 2nd Melco Star Macau – Youth Talent Competition was held successfully

(Dec 6 2021)In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, promote young generation’s patriotism and love of Macao, and spread Chinese culture through artistic performances, Melco Crown Entertainment, National Conditions Education Association (Macau) and Centre for Chinese History and Culture, University of Macau cooperated to organize the 2nd Melco Star Macau – Youth Talent Competition. From December 4th to 5th, the preliminary round of the competition went smoothly in the Black Box Theatre of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Macau. Young people from all over Macau showed their great performance on promoting Chinese traditional culture through dance, singing, instrumental music, recitation, drama and martial arts and other programs.

The Inaugural Meeting and the Flag Presentation Ceremony of the First Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador Team were successfully held

On November 22, 2021, the fourth Macao Forum on Chinese Culture and the Inaugural Meeting of the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador Team were successfully held in the Cultural Building (E34) of the University of Macau. Considering that the pandemic situation is still continuing, in order to cooperate with the pandemic prevention work of the Macao SAR government, the meeting was held simultaneously in a combination of online (zoom) and offline.

Before the Flag Presentation Ceremony, Mr. PANG Chap Chong, Dean of Students, Student Affairs Office of the University of Macau, was invited to introduce the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador Team. At the same time, the meeting also had the honor to invite Mr. Ung Choi Kun, President of the Macao Wisdom Humanities Encourage Political Association, Mr. Wu Zhiliang, President of the Macao Foundation, Mr. Si Ka-lon, member of the Macao Legislative Assembly, Mr. Song Yonghua, Rector of the University of Macau, and Mr. Lei Pui Lam, First Vice Chair of the University Council of the University of Macau, to serve as advisers of the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador. Subsequently, Professor Zhu Shoutong of the CCHC of the University of Macau issued certificates to the three advisers and nine supervisors present on that day.

Once the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador activity was launched, it received enthusiastic applications from all parties. After all levels of selection, more than 120 students and public have become the first Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassadors. These ambassadors formed ten teams, namely: 篤行 (to behave sincerely), 慎始 (to be careful about the beginning), 弘毅 (to have a broad and strong mind), 行健 (to walk vigorously), 克勉 (to work hard), 效哲 (to learn from the sages), 謙益 (to be modest), 成思 (to think deeply and deliberately), 致遠 (to be committed to lofty ideals), 修遠 (to move forward determinedly). And the representatives of the ten teams came to the stage on the day of the meeting and received the flags from the distinguished guests. After the Flag Presentation Ceremony, Mr. CHEANG Neng Ian, Deputy Director of the CCHC of the University of Macau, introduced the work responsibilities and follow-up activities to the ambassadors in detail, and gave them high expectations. Finally, the Inaugural Meeting of the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador Team and the Flag Presentation Ceremony were a complete success in a harmonious and happy atmosphere.

The Successful Holding of the Macao Forum for Chinese Culture and the establishment of the Chinese Culture Promotion Ambassador Team

On November 22, with the charming autumn scenery of Macau SAR, the opening ceremony of the 4th Macao Forum for Chinese Culture was successfully held. It was co-organized by Centre for Chinese History and Culture, University of Macau and the Think Tank of United Citizens of Macao, and was Witnessed by the guests from all over the world. Under the background of the whole world experiencing the threat of COVID-19, the theme of the forum was Openness and Inclusiveness of Chinese Culture. The forum simultaneously conducted online and offline speeches, and has attracted more than 60 experts from the field of history, philosophy, literature, and art at home and abroad to join the discussion.

The Plan to Cultivate the Masters of Humanities & Social Science Education Completed Successfully

The Macao Base for Primary & Secondary Education in Humanities & Social Sciences has been actively promoting the teaching activities of the humanities society in Macao, and is striving to improve the excellent qualifications and abilities of Macao teachers through classroom and various extracurricular lectures, guidance and activities. To this end, the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary Education in Humanities & Social Sciences hopes to jointly organize the Professional Training Plan for Teaching Personnel of Humanities and Social Sciences with the Macao Education and Youth Development Bureau to further improve the knowledge and ability of primary and secondary school teachers in Macao to teach and disseminate humanities and social sciences.
Professors from the University of Macau and famous experts and scholars from Macao will be invited as instructors. The training program aims to improve teachers’ knowledge of Humanities and social sciences education and objectively evaluate students’ academic achievements. The students are expected to be in-service teachers in Macao.
