“Chinese History and Culture and Macau” Exhibition was Held at the University of Macau

 

——A delegation from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China came to visit

 

On December 26th, 2019, Tian Xuejun who is the deputy minister of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the director of the State Language Committee. Ouyang Yu ,who is Gabinete da Secretária para os Assuntos Sociais e CulturaGoverno da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau. Luo Yonggang,who is the deputy director of the Liason Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. Lin Jincheng, who is the chairman of University Council of Universityof Macau. Liu Jin, who is the director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Xu Xiaoping, who is the director of the Department of Language Application and Administration Management of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Su Zhaohui,who is the director of the Higher Education Bureau. Song Yonghua, who is the President of the University of Macau. Tian Gang, who is the Vice President of Peking University, and Zhou Zuoyu, who is the Vice President of Beijing Normal University attended the “Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences of Ministry of Education” unveiling ceremony .And ,the members of the delegation of Ministry of Education visited the Centre for Chinese History and Culture and were introduced the “Chinese History and Culture and Macau” exhibition under the introduction of Zhu Shoutong ,who is the interim director. This exhibition was organized by Centre for Chinese History and Culture and was divided into four parts, which respectively showed the results of “Research”, “Exchange”, “Education and Training” and “Promotion and Popularization” of the Centre. The purpose of the exhibition is to convey the history and inherit the cultural heritage, and contribute to China’s historical and cultural research and promotion. After the exhibition, Minister Tian affirmed the Centre’s great contribution in inheriting and promoting Chinese history and culture in recent years.

This exhibition also attracted many visitors during the campus open day activities. Many students and their parents said that they have seen the efforts of the University of Macau and the Centre for Chinese History and Culture through the exhibition, and they have more deeply realized the connection between the culture of Macau and Chinese history and culture. In 2020, they hope to have more time and opportunities to participate in a series of activities such as education lectures and cultural inspections.

In addition, the staff of the Centre also organized Chinese history and culture open day quiz game, and prepared gifts such as bookmarks and folders for the participators. In addition to the local residents of Macau and the people of the Greater Bay Area who came to visit the campus, many international students also participated to experience the interest of Chinese history and culture together.

UM’s South China Quarterly named ‘China’s famous university publication in social sciences’

 

 

South China Quarterly, an academic journal in the fields of humanities and social sciences published by the University of Macau (UM), has been named a ‘Famous University Publication on Social Sciences in China’. Tian Weiping, the journal’s editor-in-chief, has been named an ‘Outstanding Editor-in-Chief of a Famous University Publication on Social Sciences in China’.

The event was organised by a national society for the studies of university journals in humanities and social sciences in China. The society evaluated social sciences publications from nearly 2,000 higher education institutions in China, published in the past five years. The fact that UM’s South China Quarterly was named a famous journal in the field shows national recognition of the quality of the publication. Tian spoke at the award presentation ceremony and shared the process of founding the journal.

Founded by UM and edited by the university’s Centre for Chinese History and Culture, this quarterly journal focuses on global issues, regional issues, and China issues.

 

 

UM students visit Hunan province to experience local history and culture

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC) recently arranged for a group of 20 students to visit Changsha, Hunan province, to help them learn more about Hunan’s history and culture. Led by Cheang Neng Ian, a programme coordinator from the CCHC, UM students exchanged ideas with student representatives of Hunan University and Central South University on university life. They also discussed ways to promote cultural literacy and awareness among students, the implementation of whole-person education, and the development of campuses with a cultural and artistic ambience. The UM delegation also visited the Orange Isle, the Yuelu Academy, and the Hunan Museum.

First Macao Forum on Education in Humanities and Social Sciences held at UM

 

The first Macao Forum on Education in Humanities and Social Sciences was held at the University of Macau (UM) recently. Co-organised by UM’s Macao Base for Primary & Secondary Education in Humanities & Social Sciences and Centre for Chinese History and Culture, the forum aimed to promote collaboration between UM and local schools in the fields of humanities and social sciences as well as to explore new avenues for education in the fields.

UM scholars and representatives from various primary and secondary schools in Macao participated in the forum and had in-depth discussions on issues related to the creation of an environment that is conducive to education in humanities and social sciences.

UM’s University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng and UM Rector Yonghua Song met with forum participants. UM’s Vice Rector Billy So delivered a speech in which he stressed the significance of the forum, saying that it was part of UM’s effort to promote education in humanities and social sciences in partnership with local schools.

Zhuhai Cultural Inspection of Centre for Chinese History and Culture of University of Macau

In response to the national plan for the construction of the Greater Bay Area and improve Macau teachers and students’ understanding of history and culture of the Mainland, 25 teachers and postgraduate students of the Centre for Chinese History and Culture of the University of Macau went to Zhuhai for cultural investigations to strengthen the sense of culture,. The expedition started on November 30, 2019. It took two days to investigate the representative cultural addresses of Zhuhai.

Based on the goals to combine history, culture, and education, this inspection visited Qi’ao Island, New Garden, and Beishan Courtyard, each with Chinese and Western characteristics. Teachers and students believe that we are familiar with and love the history and culture of the motherland . With this sense of identity and pride, Macau residents should actively participate in the construction of the Great Bay Area and contribute to the prosperity of the motherland.

The 7th International Conference of World Travel Witting in Chinese Was Held ,providing great Tea Culture experience

” The 7th International Conference of World Travel Witting in Chinese ” organized by the Macao Foundation, the Chinese University of Hong Kong United College and “Ming Pao Monthly”in Hong Kong, co-organized by the Centre for Chinese History and Culture of the University of Macau and the World Chinese Literature Association, has been held in 2019. It was successfully held in Macau for two consecutive days from November 26th to 27th. More than 70 well-known writers and scholars from the Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan ,Japan and South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Egypt, Iran and France gathered in Macau to conduct academic discussions on the theme of ” Tour of Tea Culture “. The seminar opened at 9:30 am on the 26th at the University of Macau. Zhong Yi, Interim Chairman of the administrative council of the Macao Foundation. Xu Jie, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Macau, and Bei Junqi, Consultant of the Preparatory Committee for the 7th International Conference of World Travel Witting in Chinese. President of the seminar and President of World Chinese Travel Literature Association Pan Yaoming attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, together with Ms. Chen Haiyu of Shenzhen JinLuan Co., Ltd., Tutor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor of Department of Chinese ,Zhang Shuangqing, Chairman of Guangdong Danxia Tianxiong Tea Co., Ltd. Xie Jinzhi,interim director of the Centre for Chinese History and Culture of University of Macau Zhu Shoutong, together to cut the ribbon for the conference.

UM holds forum of thinkers in Macao

The University of Macau (UM) recently held the second forum of thinkers in Macao. The event was co-organised by UM’s Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC) and the editorial team of South China Quarterly. During the event, participants discussed the coexistence of different civilisations and its importance to Macao as well as Chinese and western cultures.

During the forum, Vice Rector (Student Affairs) Billy So said that each civilisation is a vehicle for achieving coexistence and different civilisations are connected to one another through communication. He expressed hope that participants in the forum would make contributions to the coexistence of different civilisations through exploring Chinese and western wisdom.

Officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Billy So, Zhu Shoutong, interim director of the CCHC; Tian Weiping, editor-in-chief of South China Quarterly; as well as experts and scholars from various institutions, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University, Hunan University, Shenzhen University, and the Macau University of Science and Technology.

Chinese History and Culture Forum and Confucian Art and Culture Collection Held in Macau

To celebrate the 2750th year of the great educator Confucius, the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region, the University of Macau, Centre for Chinese History and Culture, Confucius Institute, China Confucius Institute, and Changshu Overseas Association, Suzhou Overseas Association, the Macao Base for Primary and Secondary Education in Humanities and Social Science, Choi Kai Yau College and the Cheong Kun Lun College recently held The “China History and Culture Forum and Confucian Art and Culture Collection”at the University of Macau.
