Renowned musician He Zhanhao gives talk on Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto at UM

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Chinese History and Culture recently organised an event in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Butterfly Lovers’s Violin Concerto, one of the classic orchestra works of Chinese music. The composer He Zhanhao gave a lecture in which he shared his inspiration for this piece and how the Chinese legend of a tragic love story is illustrated through the music.

The Workers’ Children High School, Macau joins UM’s base for the promotion of Chinese history and culture

The University of Macau’s (UM) base for the promotion of Chinese history and culture recently signed a collaboration agreement with the General Association of Chinese Students of Macau, and The Workers’ Children High School, Macau, bringing the number of local schools that have joined the base to six. According to the agreement, the base will invite renowned scholars from around the world to give lectures and organise the Chinese Culture Day and field trips to different areas in China, including the Greater Bay Area, in order to promote understanding of China’s history and current development among the youth in Macao.

The famous library -Calligraphy Collection Exhibition of The Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC)

The Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC) has been established for two years, and has made many achievements in the publicity, promotion, research and education of Chinese history and culture. It established The famous teachers and famous schools  lecture programs, the Chinese Culture (Macau) Forum, the Chinese History and Culture Promotion Base, the Lingnan Culture research projects, and the Greater Bay Area Cultural Education Alliance and Chinese History and Culture  a series of Festival activities and programs, it already have become important academic and cultural brands. Famous literary artists at home and abroad have expressed their support for them by donating works and books. Part of the works collected in the celebrity font library of the centre are now displayed. This exhibition is part of the works donated by important calligraphers from overseas, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Chinese Calligraphers Association. The exhibition was held on April 14, 2019 in E21-G052a.

The Affiliated School of the University of Macau joins UM’s base for the promotion of Chinese history and culture

The University of Macau’s (UM) base for the promotion of Chinese history and culture recently signed a collaboration agreement with the General Association of Chinese Students of Macau, and The Affiliated School of the University of Macau, bringing the number of local schools that have joined the base to seven. The collaboration aims to increase local students’ interest in learning about Chinese history and traditional culture and to foster a sense of belonging. According to the agreement, the base will invite renowned scholars from around the world to give lectures and organise the Chinese Culture Day and field trips to different areas in China, including the Greater Bay Area, in order to promote understanding of Chinese history and current development among the youth in Macau.

Representatives from Nanjing University visited The Centre for Chinese History and Culture (March 19, 2019)

On March 19, Nanjing University visited the University of Macau for the first time. The delegation included Hu Jinbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University and Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference, Xue Hailin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University, Pu Lijie, Assistant to the President of Nanjing University, and Zhang Xiaodong, Director of the Development Committee of Nanjing University. Zhang Suogeng, Secretary General of Nanjing University Alumni Association, and Kong Jianfeng, Deputy Director of the Office of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs of Nanjing University. The Director Zhu Shoutong of the Chinese History and Culture Centre led the delegation to visit the centre and had a short talk.

 

UM signs collaboration agreement with GACSM and Matteo Ricci College on promotion of Chinese history and culture

Matteo Ricci College has become the fifth secondary school in Macao to sign a collaboration agreement with the University of Macau (UM) Centre for Chinese History and Culture and the General Association of Chinese Students of Macau (GACSM) on the promotion of Chinese history and culture. The collaboration aims to increase local students’ interest in learning about Chinese history and traditional culture and to foster a sense of belonging. The other four schools that have previously signed the agreement are Pui Ching Middle School, Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai, Macau Baptist College, and Escola Catolica Estrela do Mar.

The beauty of Chinese characters|Professor Yu Dan came to UM to give a lecture

On December 13th, Centre for Chinese History and Culture (CCHC)  of University of Macau invited the famous cultural scholar Professor Yu Dan of the Beijing Normal University to give a lecture with the theme of “The Beauty of Chinese Characters walk into UM” for all students. The lecture attracted more than 100 teachers and students to participate in the event. The atmosphere was lively and full of seats. 

 

Before the lecture, Professor Zhu Shoutong, deputy director of  Centre for Chinese History and Culture, presented books Chinese New Culture Centennial History and his handwritten calligraphy works to Professor Yu Dan on behalf of the centre. Professor Yu also gave back the books to express her gratitude.
Professor Yu gave a speech on Chinese characters from the bloody genes of Chinese culture, which led to questioning of the root of personal culture. First of all, Macao as a “cross-cultural bridge”,  is both ancient and modern, coexisting in China and the West, different and harmonious. she affirms the diversity and inclusiveness of Macao culture and appreciates respect of Macao people. The communication between China and the West must be based on words, and language is the bridge. Language is the most important communication tool for human beings. Professor Yu combined with Chinese traditional culture, with a subtle language and vivid narrative, shared the beauty of Chinese characters to the audience.
